Anonymous Babylonian Mathematicians of the Reign of Hammurabi (1771 ±21 BC). Tablets inscribed in old Babylonian cuneiform show that
Babylonian mathematicians of the time of Hammurabi had mastered the solution of certain quadratic equations. This is a precursor to the general solution to the universal quadratic equation: ax2 + bx + c = 0. More than three millennia were to pass before the general solution to a cubic equation was found.
