A Secret Plan to Stop Solar Energy
Let’s suppose that your aim is to promote the use of fossil fuels like coal. The problem you face is the rapid rise in the efficacy of solar power along with the declining price of solar installations. It now appears we can achieve total renewable energy production within a few decades. If you are in the fossil fuel business, your bottom line will surely be affected negatively. The coal industry is already on the ropes with power companies preferring natural gas, wind and solar in the near future. Since last year’s election, jobs in the coal sector have risen only four percent, mostly due to foreign purchases rather than executive branch policies.
So, what could put the brakes on solar? Well, one thing would be the diminution of sunlight or its complete absence. That would certainly do the trick. No easy task, though. You could try injecting ever more carbon into the atmosphere in an attempt to darken the sky, but it might take a while.
How about this: put your money behind a deranged political candidate and get him elected to the presidency. Then use the military to pressure a small nuclear-capable country into building up its nuclear program in response. Declare the country a clear and present danger. Wait for any excuse to use nuclear weapons on them. Between your bombs and theirs (and who knows, maybe others will join in) enough radioactive dust will fill the earth’s atmosphere to bring on nuclear winter and end the usefulness of solar panels. Mission accomplished.
